Traveling for Next to Nothing

So our trip out west is coming up in May. We are beyond excited, but what makes it even better is that our flights costed literally next to nothing. Want to guess how much our round-trip flight cost from Newark to Albuquerque? Guess…

Our flights cost us $10 dollars each, NOT KIDDING.

Last year we signed up for the United Mileage Plus Explorer credit card. If you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months, which we did, you receive 30,000 bonus miles. These miles can be used toward a roundtrip ticket. When you use your card, you earn 1 mile for every $1 you spend.

We accumulated more miles when we traveled to Costa Rica. In addition to the miles we earned on the flight, our flight back was actually delayed, and to compensate us United gave us about 10,000 free miles! With the card you also get a free checked bag each flight. Not bad, right? The first year is free, and after there’s a $95/year fee for the card, but if you’re using those miles to travel, it’s obviously worth it. The card is great for anyone looking to get a dirt cheap flight nearly effortlessly.

There are plenty of other travel rewards cards out there, I’m just sharing a personal experience with ours. Do some research and see what’s best for you. Definitely go for a card that offers you bonus miles at sign up, or soon after. Use a travel rewards card on everything you normally would a credit card and just start racking up the miles!

Happy travels.  🙂
